The Market Manager is accountable for managing all ordering, receiving, organization, quality assurance, and daily operations of the Marketplace Grocery Store. They are charged with ensuring the consistent delivery of positive customer experiences at the grocery store and are accountable for ensuring cleanliness, safety, compliance, and brand standards are maintained at all times. They also serve as a key stakeholder in building the overall grocery strategy. As the leader of the grocery store, the Market Manager should ensure all grocery team members have the skills, tools, and guidance they need to deliver extraordinary coastal experiences to the guests of all of our lodging properties, day- trip customers, and local shoppers.

This role reports to the Marketplace GM and manages a team of 10-15 clerks. They are a leader throughout the Family of Companies and are a model of our core values for all team members.

  1. Daily Operations: Under your management and leadership, daily operations are executed in a way that supports revenue objectives, the desired customer experience, and quality and safety standards.
  2. Guest Experience & Brand Integrity:  You leverage your understanding of target Marketplace customers to deliver on brand promises and exceed customer expectations.
  3. Team Member Experience: Under your leadership, the grocery store fosters a safe, fun, and productive work environment.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (“By taking on these accountabilities…”)

Daily Operations:

  • Oversee all grocery team members and operations, ensuring they understand their role in contributing to the desired guest experience at the marketplace.
  • Leverage resources and labor to maximize efficiency, without compromising quality and service standards.
  • Accurately complete and submit all invoices to meet deadlines and ensure alignment with product ordered. Ensure that all prices are monitored and that the correct product is being represented in inventory locations.
  • Make cleanliness and safety the highest priority. Ensure all physical spaces, equipment, and tools are maintained and meet the brand standards along with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ensure that products are properly stocked and labeled with prices at all times.
  • Manage product storage and rotation procedures to reduce spoilages and damages. Ensure all grocery spaces are maintained, cleaned, and organized.
  • Own grocery ordering, ensuring timely submission of invoices. Delegate tasks and ask for assistance to ensure continuity on days off. Manage vendor relationships with the aim of building mutually beneficial partnerships.

Guest Experience & Brand Integrity:

  • Build processes and service flows to ensure a cohesive guest experience.
  • Work with the GM and Deli Lead to assist in determining which ready-made products should be offered in the grocery section and where. Collaborate to determine which ready-made products should be ordered and which should be prepared in store.
  • Manage grocery products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs, tailoring offerings to the consumer profiles for each of our lodging properties. Develop sales promotion programs tailored to consumer profiles and business needs.
  • Determine and maintain the proper layout/ organization of grocery store, with the goal of maximizing revenue and guest experience.
  • Ensure that the physical environment and food products in the grocery store consistently meet the standards of our brand promise.
  • Regularly collaborate with stakeholders across the Family of Companies to create, improve, and deliver a seamless guest experience.

Team Member Experience:

  • Lead and manage with our core values. Work cooperatively and positively with fellow team members, building a respectful workplace where everyone is welcome.
  • Inspire and support your team to deliver extraordinary experiences. Recognize and lead to the strengths of each team member and hold each team member accountable to their role in delivering the guest experience.
  • Coach grocery clerks to anticipate guest needs and proactively assist guests. Work with them on contributing to achieving sales goals.
  • Share the focus and happenings of your department across the resort to ensure continuity in the guest experience.
  • Foster an environment of feedback, accountability, learning, and fun. Have Quarterly Conversations with each of your direct reports to support this objective and check-in on the engagement of your team.
  • Create opportunities for team member development. Work with the GM and HR to create growth and development paths.
  • Provide direction and guidance to grocery team members in their assigned job duties.
  • Hire in collaboration with the GM and train team members on assigned responsibilities.
